Modeling Healthcare Logistics in a Virtual World
Demos
About our Project.
An NPR audio interview that provides an overview of our project.
Catheterization Lab Demo
This video shows an automated workflow in which avatarbots perform a sequence of steps based on a Prolog program that defines the roles (doctor, patient, nurse, ...) and actions of the participants in a heart catheterization procedure.

Summer 2008 Demo - Part 1
This video introduces the project and the virtual hospital. A virtual RFID system is demonstrated, followed by a series of Supply Chain simulations that show the movement of goods from warehouse to use. This includes a prescription distribution system that protects against various situations where a drug could be taken by the wrong person. The video ends with an initial experiment showing how avatarbots could be used to simulate an active hospital.
Summer 2008 Demo - Part 2
This video exhibits a second virtual hospital created by six high school students taking part in the EAST initiative. The EAST Project Teen Island was built and scripted in six weeks, and is amazingly realistic. Also a part of the island, the teens built a virtual classroom simulation.
Summer 2008 Demo - Part 3
This video demonstrates a number of the objects and related projects which were built for the virtual hospitals. This includes some humorous extensions conceived in the fertile imaginations of the teens. The video also displays another possible area of virtual world simulation, the elderly patient home providing technology-enabled remote healthcare. The video concludes with a virtual version of a famous internet meme.
Robot Patient Care Demo Video
This video shows robots playing the roles of nurses and patients in a healthcare workflow simulation. You need to read the Chat to see what is happening.

Conveyor Demo Video
This video shows another link in the virtual supply chain problem -- a conveyor system that moves boxes to different locations based on inventory need.
